BANFF, AB (April 15, 2025): Today, the NGIF Accelerator announced the launch of its NGIF Emissions Testing Centre (ETC) program’s four commercialization pillars: 1. Technology Landscape, 2. Commercialization and Adoption Playbook, 3. Technology Adoption Platform, and 4. Technology Exposition. These pillars have been designed to create a step-by-step structured pathway for methane technology providers to follow for accelerated market adoption and emissions reduction.
We’re also excited to announce the launch of our Call for Applications from methane technology developers to participate in Pillar 3: The Technology Adoption Platform. Selected participants will gain access to tailored training, peer-to-peer learning, and connections to industry partners and investors.
The announcement was made on Day 1 of the Methane Leadership Summit, hosted by Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada (PTAC), reinforcing NGIF’s commitment to supporting cleantech innovation in Alberta and Canada’s natural gas sector. In July, the NGIF ETC program received a $15MM award from Alberta’s Ministry of Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA), a key sponsor of the program. This funding supports NGIF ETC’s ongoing efforts to accelerate the testing and development of methane management technologies.
“We launched the NGIF ETC program together with our partners Tourmaline Oil and the University of Calgary to help methane technology developers fast-track the testing, field validation, and commercialization of their solutions for accelerated market adoption,” said John Adams, President and CEO of NGIF Accelerator. “We can offer qualified startups free access to the program due to the funding support from the Government of Alberta Environment and Protected Areas, enabling Alberta and Canada’s natural gas industry to be a global leader in emissions reduction.”
“Alberta’s energy sector is one of the most productive and responsible sectors in the world,” said Rebecca Schulz, Minister of Environment and Protected Areas. “These pillars will help break down barriers and give methane technology developers a clear path to scale up and succeed. This helps us keep powering the world forward with the most reliable, responsible, and secure energy anywhere.”
“Canadians want and need the affordable and reliable energy service offering they have come to expect from the natural gas industry. When we created NGIF and the NGIF ETC program, it was our vision to bring the entire natural gas value chain together to support cleantech development that enhances environmental and economic performance for the sector. The Government of Alberta’s funding will help the NGIF ETC program in that regard, particularly with efforts to meet the emission control regimes that are being established by the Government of Canada,” said Timothy M. Egan, President and CEO of the Canadian Gas Association and Chair of NGIF Capital Corporation.

About the NGIF Emissions Testing Centre Program
The NGIF Emissions Testing Centre (ETC) program involves collaboration between industry, academia, and government. It involves public support to ensure cleantech companies have a dedicated space to develop, test, and field-validate technologies to measure, monitor, and reduce methane emissions and to fast-track methane technologies to market through knowledge dissemination and fostering commercialization. The program is unique in that it provides cleantech companies with free access to testing and commercialization support for rapid scale-up of technologies from concept to commercial-ready deployment. The program’s lab at the University of Calgary provides capabilities to test and de-risk technologies in a controlled environment, complemented by live field trials at the West Wolf Lake Gas Plant (jointly owned by Tourmaline Oil Corp. and Rubellite Energy), along with other Tourmaline assets. The NGIF Accelerator supports technology developers in scaling up by disseminating knowledge and providing commercialization support.
